“In my day kids didn’t sit around all day playing video games, they went outside and played until the street lights came on”
Most people above the age of twenty- five probably remember climbing trees, playing dodgeball and freeze tag. My thirteen year old might vaguely remember the days when he used to play outside in the sprinklers naked (he was 2 and had something against wearing clothes and shoes). Now he sits in his room playing video games or watching TV all day. I’ve been looking for a way to get him to play outside and do physical activities (wow, how old did I just sound?). I suggested that we run together on the track at his school after I get home from work. At this, he scoffed (I guess he doesn’t think I’m cool enough to be seen in public with). I asked myself what I can do to make this kid enjoy the great outdoors without having to take him camping or anything crazy that I know I’d hate to do myself? I can’t let him sit inside all summer so I have to find something for him to do. Luckily the library has the answer to most questions so starting there is a no-brainer.

The library has started lending out cool outdoor games from Badminton to sprinklers. To check these games out, just stop by the reference desk with your library card. You can take them home for a full week! I am bringing home Badminton today to see if anyone in my family has dope skills like me (I’m trying to sound younger after that “physical activity” comment).
