Let me start this post by letting you know I absolutely HATE going grocery shopping! So many people, it’s always so cold at the grocery store, I don’t know how to shop for bargains, or know what I want most of the time. This makes it a “husband chore” in my book. Thankfully, my wonderful husband takes care of keeping the fridge stocked! He shops for bargains and got us one of those shopper cards from his favorite grocery store.
After spending a certain amount on your shopper card, some grocery stores give you free turkey or ham for the holidays. While I am always excited to get free stuff, I quickly remembered the turkey I still have in my freezer from Thanksgiving (I’ve also never made a turkey). I explained my dilemma to my work mom and, being the problem solver that she is, she told me “ham is so easy,” and she encouraged me by telling me “I wouldn’t mess it up” because ham is already cooked, and it’s just a matter of heating it up. It even comes with a packet of glaze! After that talk, I felt pretty sure of myself. “I can do this!” That’s when I saw the ham didn’t come with a glaze, but it did come with instructions on how to thaw it and how long to put it in the oven.
I found books on how to cook a ham and how to make glazes.
I also found awesome recipes on the Patchogue-Medford Library Pinterest page. I was even able to figure out a few side dishes to complement my ham and a few decorating ideas.
There are also many cooking websites that can help with your holiday meal from start to finish. Here are just a few.
With these resources in hand, I’m sure I got this!
