Patchogue-Medford Library has many items readily available between what is available locally as well as through Suffolk County’s library system, but sometimes there are items that are not in either catalog.
The library can still help find those through the Interlibrary Loan system.
Barbara Kostyrka, who works with these requests at the library, said that should a patron search for an item that is not in either catalog, the library will search the catalogs in Nassau County and in New York City to help find it.
If the item is still not available, Patchogue-Medford Library will look into bringing the material into the local system.
Many times this service is free, but the lending library could charge the patron a fee around $10-$15 for the loan. Should this be the case, Kostyrka said the patron will be will be alerted before having to pay so they can decide whether to continue the request. Overdue fees will also be determined by the rules of the library sending the material over.
In addition to books, patrons can request microfilms and vinyl records to be respectively viewed or listened to while at the library.
Requests can be made through the Reference Desk, which can be reached on the library’s main level, called at 631-654-4700 ext. 220 and 221,
