Read stories at home with your child and earn prizes along the way!
Who is this for?
The 1000 Books Together program is designed for families of infants, toddlers, and preschoolers up to and including age 5! In other words – any child that has not yet started Kindergarten.
When can we start?
Now! Registration is ongoing year round.
Why 1000 books?
Reading together enhances the relationship between children and their parent/caregiver, plus it builds early literacy skills, which are the foundation for educational success. Studies have shown that the more words a child is exposed to in the years before beginning, the more prepared they will be for learning to read independently.
We know that 1000 books can seem daunting, but if you read just one book a night together, you will have read 365 books in a year. That is 730 books in two years and 1,095 books in three years! And don’t worry – reading the same title over and over counts! 😊

Once you are signed up on Reader Zone, come to the Children’s Information Desk at the Patchogue-Medford Library’s Main Building to receive your FREE 1000 Books Together canvas tote bag and your child’s interactive reading path.
