"Turn the Page" Exhibition now on view in Claire Davidson Siegel Gallery

THIS EXHIBIT WAS ON VIEW AT THE PATCHOGUE-MEDFORD LIBRARY IN JULY – AUGUST 2019

The Library is proud to present Turn the Page, a solo exhibit featuring the artwork of Children’s Librarian Elaine Perez. The exhibit is on view in the Claire Davidson Siegel Gallery and features black-and-white photos of library programs and community events. Each picture celebrates the Patchogue-Medford community and speaks to the inclusive nature of the diverse programs and events that brings our neighborhood together.

    About the Artwork

Some pictures in the exhibition are of crowds of people gathered along Main Street enjoying parades and other community events. Other photos feature some of our younger patrons enjoying programs at the library.

There are several pictures that depict this year’s festive St. Patrick’s Day parade. One image, Standing Tall and Proud, captures the Quartermaster of the bagpipe marching band, completely adorned in his plaid kilt and feathered bonnet. His commanding stance and upright pose instantly attracts the viewer’s eye as one admires his striking uniform.

Another work in the exhibit, The Pride of Scotland, captures the 2018 fall visit of the famous Budweiser Clydesdales. They delivered beer to select Main Street businesses to celebrate the 85th anniversary of the repeal of Prohibition. The spectacle drew large crowds into Patchogue Village as people admired the Clydesdales trotting down the street, pulling their historic red carriage.

Other pictures feature some of the diverse programs that are offered at the Patchogue-Medford Library. Wow! Can’t Wait to Learn the Violin captures a moment from last year’s immersive Instrument Petting Zoo program in which Stony Brook students come to the library to teach our younger patrons about different musical instruments.
