There’s a library in Medford?
Not yet! The Medford Branch is a work in progress. It will be a 5000 square foot branch providing increased access to library services for Patchogue-Medford residents.
Where is it going to be?
When will it be done?
The plan is to break ground in March 2022. The actual construction process is estimated to take about a year to complete.
I have questions/comments/concerns.
We want to hear from you! Please contact the Library’s director, Danielle Paisley.
Construction is scheduled to begin on the Medford Library Branch in Spring 2022! Bids for the new building at the Medford Athletic Complex on Horseblock Road were accepted and awarded at the December 2021 Board meeting. Thank you to our friends at the Axis Cafe in Medford, for offering free space to hold some of our classes in that area of our district while our new library is awaiting construction.
Plans and specs for the new Medford Branch Library at the Medford Athletic Complex on Horseblock Road are available and bids are due on November 8, 2021. The latest rendering, floor plan, and site plan can be found on our website at www.pmlib.org/Medford. The Library has received approval from the State Education Department and has been recommended to receive grant funding from the New York State Division of Library Development Library Construction Aid. When that is official we will be sure to post it on our website! Once the bids have been reviewed thoroughly and accepted by the Library Board, construction can begin at the park. We are so excited for these next steps, and we will keep you updated on the progress via our website. Please call the Director at 631-654-4700, ext. 300 with any questions. Work continues on the design process of the Medford Library Project. Places for Children, Adults, and Teens are being accounted for, although the building is relatively small compared to the Main Library. There will be an outside space that can be used for programs, activities, and quiet reading space for everyone. A lower level will be added and unfinished, so that the building has room for growth in the future.
The Library Board and staff have been busy making plans for the future, including making a library in Medford. One of the most frequent questions we get is, “When will the Medford Branch will be open?” We are excited to let you know that a timeline is in place to take the project from concept to the finish line. The basic timeline moving forward is approximately 18-24 months. We anticipate sending the design plans to the NY State Education Department by early summer. Once they approve the plans, the bid process begins. The public bidding process will end with awards going to the lowest responsible bidders, and the actual construction process is estimated to take about a year to complete. A virtual public meeting is scheduled for January 25 at 7 pm at which time H2M Architects will walk through the plans for the facility. With a limited budget and many changes and obstacles due to Covid, we move forward taking these challenges into consideration. The link to the virtual call is below. Please call the Library prior to the call if you need technical help connecting. It’s our pleasure to help you. Continue to visit the website for the latest information.
